When it comes to the refrigerator system, then evaporators play a major role in the cooling system of the refrigerators. An evaporator with other major components in the refrigerator system, such as condenser, expansion device, and compressor help in maintaining the cooling of the refrigerators. The basic function of an evaporator in the refrigerator system is to remove the heat from the water, air, and other substances present in the refrigerator. The evaporators of refrigerator systems act as a heat exchanger which helps in transferring the heat from the substance and make it cool.

The importance of a refrigerator system

We all know the importance of a refrigerator system in our lives, especially during the summer season.

Refrigerators help in keeping the food and water cold during hot seasons. Due to the cold temperature provided by the refrigerators, the food we prepare will be fresh for a longer period of time. The food stays fresh for a longer period in the cold temperature because the cold temperature slows down the formation of bacteria on the food and because of that, the bacteria takes longer to ruin the food. And of course, when it comes to water, then we all know the craving of cold water in hot summer seasons.

The types of evaporators in the refrigerator system

There are basically two types of evaporators in the refrigerator system which help in the heat exchanging process and make your food to be fresh for a longer period of time. Let’s have a look at them in a detailed manner.

  • Forced convection

Forced convection type of evaporator used in the refrigerator system helps in forcing the liquid being cooled down through a fan or pump over the evaporator.

  • Natural convection

Natural convection type of evaporator used in the refrigerator system helps in cooling down the flows of liquid in a natural manner over the evaporator. This process happens because of the difference between the density of the warm and chilled liquid.

The types of construction of evaporators

When it comes to the types of construction of evaporators used in the refrigerator system, then there are basically three types of evaporator construction. Let’s have a look at them in a more detailed manner.

  • Bare tube evaporators

The bare tube evaporator construction is constructed in such a manner in which the entire surface of the evaporator is in contact with the evaporating refrigerant which is present inside the refrigerator system.

  • Plate surface evaporators

The plate surface evaporators work in the same way as the bare tube evaporators in the refrigerator system and also follows the same concept of the surface is in contact with the evaporating refrigerant. However, plate surface evaporators and bare tube evaporators are present in the different types of refrigeration systems.

  • Finned evaporators

Finned evaporators are a type of evaporator which is constructed over the bare tube coils. The fins are the metal plates that are usually made up of aluminum and are installed over the bare tube coils of the evaporator.

The design of the evaporators used in the refrigerator system depends on the various factors. However, there are three main factors that affect the designing of the refrigerator system evaporator a lot. They are pressure drop, temperature, and liquid and refrigerant vapor.
