The basic meaning of crystallization is the method of separation. In this separation process, either crystals or precipitate is produced from a liquid or gaseous form. The solid crystals produced from the process of crystallization are very pure. That is why the process of crystallization can also be used as the process of purification in industries. The process of salt crystallization is also known as brine treatment. This crystallization process is very common in industries for the treatment of wastewater. For the process of crystallization to happen, it is mandatory for the solution that it should be supersaturated. In the process of crystallization, the method of supersaturation is different from each other.

Following are the three different ways of achieving the method of supersaturation-

  • The process of supersaturation can be achieved by cooling down the solution but with negligible or minimal evaporation.
  • The supersaturation can also be produced by evaporation of the solvent using little cooling.
  • The method of the production of supersaturation can also be achieved by the process of a combination of cooling and adiabatic evaporation. This process is also known as vacuum crystallization.

But there is one thing that you should keep in mind that, in the crystallization process the solutes should definitely have a curve of solubility which will be able to decrease according to the temperature if the crystallization process uses supersaturation through cooling.

The process of supersaturation is achieved through evaporating the solvent only where solubility is temperature-dependent. The process of vacuum crystallization involves a combination of evaporation and cooling in which the solution is put through into vacuum conditions, due to this the solvent evaporates suddenly and cools down the solution through the adiabatic process. This method is one of the most common methods for achieving supersaturation in the industrial world. However, every method of achieving supersaturation is in practice in the industrial crystallization process depending on the properties and characteristics. The process of crystallization is not an easy one and the most vital part in the production of solid crystals from the liquid form.

First, the solution is concentrated and later cooled down, till the time the concentration of solute is higher than the solubility. As a result, the solute forms pure crystals. The speed at which the crystals are formed is known as the crystallization speed. The process of crystallization is used in various applications of industries. The industrial use of crystallization is not always obtaining pure crystals. Most of the time the crystallization process is used for the wider treatment of liquid waste into a river or the sea. The evaporators, crystallizers, and distillation system of ALAQUA have proven themselves again and again in various applications. Kindly contact us today to know more about our corporation.
